Posted 23rd February 2024 by Tejan Pereira

Our Colchester BID has kicked off 2024 by launching InColchester, a digital town hub that will create a new digital platform for the historic City of Colchester.

The InColchester platform will provide the ultimate city app for Colchester residents and marketing tools for the city’s businesses, and a range of analytics and communication tools for the BID.

Sam Good, Chief Executive at Our Colchester, said in relation to the launch:

‘During our reballot in 2023, we set out four strategic pillars for Colchester – to make the city memorable, forward-thinking, safe, and connected.  Our digital town hub supports each of these ambitions in different ways, whether it is through events promotion, communication channels, or increased digital connectivity for our businesses.

We have always been a forward-thinking city so I’m proud that Colchester is now at the cutting edge of smart city innovation.  I’m hugely excited to see how Loqiva’s technology will grow and engage with our city.”

Colchester is an ideal location to launch Loqiva’s first digital town hub in Essex.  The city is steeped in history, culture and creativity, with a strong independent spirit and civic pride.  It hosts innovative businesses, eclectic architecture, and some of the best arts and culture venues in the country.

It is also one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most diverse locations.  It prides itself on being a welcoming place full of opportunity and accepting of differences.  This diversity can be witnessed on the Colchester campus of the University of Essex which is home to over 13,000 students from 130 different countries.

The city’s annual calendar is packed with popular events like the Soapbox Rally and Colchester Festive Light Parade.  The BID also promotes the best of local business through the Colchester Business Awards programme and the BIG Eat Out campaign.  So it’s easy to see why Colchester has become such an attractive destination for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Marcus Chidgey, co-founder of Loqiva summated:

‘I’m delighted that we’re bringing our digital town hub to Colchester this year.  I love the idea that a place that can call itself Britain’s first city and capital is embracing the future in a way that will stand the test of time.

Sam shares our vision of an engaged community, using technology as a tool to connect, trade, and inform.  This has all the makings of a great partnership and I feel fortunate to be working with such a great team at Our Colchester BID!”

The inColchester app is expected to be soft launched to businesses in April 2024 and will be available for public download by May.
