Carnoustie is known around the world for its championship golf, but there’s far more to the town than its famous course.
From its beautiful beach and coastal walks to East Haven, Barry Mill and community events like Gala Week, Carnoustie has a unique character and plenty to discover. It’s a place that combines international appeal with a strong sense of local identity.
Now, all of that has a new digital home. “Carnoustie Connect”, a Digital Town Hub developed with Loqiva, brings together local businesses, events, offers and things to do in one easy-to-use platform.
Within the first week of launch, more than 100 businesses and community groups have signed up to the initiative, including The Carnoustie Golf Shop, Carnoustie Theatre Club and The Station Hotel, alongside dozens of other local businesses and community organisations.
The project is being led by Katy Air and Chris Thornton of Carnoustie-based Airgonomics, who are clear that Carnoustie Connect is a community initiative first, with the technology there to serve it, not the other way round.
Katy Air said:
“This was never just about building a digital platform. It’s about making it easier for people to find out what’s on, support the businesses on their doorstep, and feel part of what’s happening in the town. The app is the tool, the community is the point.”
Chris Thornton added:
“We wanted something that supported the community here in Carnoustie, and Loqiva gave us the technology to do that. However, the ideas, the local knowledge and the drive behind it have all come from the people who live and work here.”
For Loqiva, Carnoustie Connect is the latest addition to its growing network of Digital Town Hubs around Scotland, which includes Inverness, St Andrews and Arbroath. Barry Conlon, Co-founder of Loqiva, said:
“Every one of these projects looks different, because every town is different. Katy and Chris know Carnoustie inside out, and it shows. This is very much Carnoustie’s platform; we’re just proud to have helped build it, and we’ll be here to support the Carnoustie Digital Town Hub as it develops over the coming years.”
