Working with Images
Your Digital Town Hub has been designed to make it easy to upload and store images.
When you are prompted to upload an image, you will be presented with the Image Library where you can choose to upload an image (select “Upload Image”) or select an image from a gallery of previously uploaded images.
Users with access to the same account are able to share images. This is really helpful when you need to re-use images for regular content themes within a team, e.g. a repeat event. Anyone can simply select the right image and use it again.
Uploading Images
When you upload an image, it must:
- be in png, jpeg or heic format.
- no bigger than 10MB – ideally 2-3MB
For best quality, images need to be no bigger than 1000px in width or height. If they are much bigger, then there will be a noticeable loss in quality.
Dimensions for Bespoke Images
When an image is uploaded, the hub actually creates multiple versions of the image. The versions are sized based upon the phone (and more specifically the screen size) the app is being used on. Therefore it’s impossible for us to provide precise dimensions for all use cases.
However, if you wish to create bespoke images to upload to your account for events, offers etc, then we advise you use dimensions of 560px x 400px (landscape). These dimensions will display for nearly all modern phones.
Tips for Images
Images have a huge impact on whether someone engages with your business, event or offer. We recommend:
- You think about how best to ‘visually sell’ whatever it is you are promoting. If, say, you own a restaurant, people don’t just want to see one shot of the exterior of the building. They want to see the interior, shots of how your dishes are served, your chefs in the kitchen, the freshness of the ingredients, parking and so on. If you run a B&B, then showcase the bedrooms, ensuite facilities and leisure areas. In short, get creative and think about what you would want to see as a potential customer to convert views to sales.
- If you have an interior space, like a bar, try not to show it completely empty. Show your space in use with people enjoying themselves. Use a mixture of wide shots and close ups to generate interest.
- If you offer a service, people buy people so think about putting yourself or staff members in shot. Depending on your business, e.g. joinery, examples of your work could be good idea too.
- Generally, avoid uploading images with text unless you create bespoke images (to the dimensions above). The chances are that the text will be cropped. This won’t look particularly professional and perhaps worse, the user might not actually be able to read the key details.
- If in doubt, just choose what you consider to be a nice picture!
